Q:  What is a ‘stubbie’?

In Australia, the term ‘stubbie’ is sometimes used to refer to short, squat, beer bottles.  Likewise, ‘tinnie’ is a term used for beer cans.

Q:  Where did the name for Stubbies & Steins come from?

In 2002 the owners Gar and Berkeley went on a trip with family and friends to Australia.  A great time was had by all especially while drinking so many delicious Australian beers.  It was a natural fit to incorporate these great memories into our pub.  Similarly, after our expansion into a German restaurant, ‘steins’ seemed a natural fit to express our many great beer adventures across Germany.

Q:  Is Stubbies & Steins a chain or franchise?

Although we would like to open more locations in the future, Stubbies & Steins is a locally owned, one-of-a-kind pub/restaurant at this time.

Q:  Where do you get all this different beer to sell?

The state of Florida has very strict regulations in regard to how retailers obtain product to sell in a business.  We only deal with licensed state distributors to procure product to sell in the pub.  There are currently about a half dozen distributors who meet our supply needs.  We do not buy directly from importers or breweries.  Thus, if a distributor does not carry a beer within the state of Florida, we cannot and do not sell/serve it in the pub.

Q:  Can Stubbies & Steins sell homebrew?

No, Stubbies & Steins cannot and does not sell/serve homebrew per state regulation.  Please refer to above information about state distributors.

Q:  How do you decide what beer to sell?

The beer selection at Stubbies & Steins is decided by several factors.  1) Is the beer available through our state distributors?  2) Is the beer a quality microbrew or imported product?  3) Does the beer broaden and diversify our selection in terms of style, price, and geographic region?  4) Is it a beer that is high in quality and “tastes good” for the style and type it represents?

If the answer is ‘yes’ to all of the above, Stubbies & Steins will add the beer to our selection for you to enjoy.

Q:  What is the average price of your beer?

Beers range in price from $4 to around $30 (for large-sized bottles of special editions brews).  On average, a guest can expect to spend about $5 or $6 for a superb beer.

Q:  What is the alcohol content of most of your beer?

There is large variation in the alcohol content of our beer, which is anywhere from 3% to upwards of 22%.  Most beers are around 5%.  There are even alcohol-free beer options.  If a guest has concerns about the alcohol content of a beer, please ask one of our knowledgeable and friendly servers.

Q:  Does Stubbies & Steins offer samples of all your beer?

We offer small samples (an ounce or so) of most of our draft beers.  Unfortunately, we do not offer samples of our bottled beer.

Q:  Why does Stubbies & Steins use all the different glassware, and how does the staff know which beer to put in which glass?

Proper glassware is imperative to the enjoyment of beer.  The reasons why this is true is best stated by our friends at beeradvocate.com.  For further information please visit, http://beeradvocate.com/beer/101/glassware

Q:  Why do you limit the number of people allowed in the pub when it’s crowded?

Local fire ordinances only allow a certain number of people to enjoy our establishment at any given time.  We follow all local laws and sometimes must ask folks to wait a few moments outside until we are able to accommodate them within our limits.
